Boston Orthotics & Prosthetics Is Awarded Workforce Training Fund Grant

Boston Orthotics & Prosthetics is proud to announce that it has received a Workforce Training Fund Program (WTFP) Grant to assist with developing its employee owners. Boston O&P is using the training funds to support Lean initiatives and leadership development.

“This training program will enable us to further integrate Lean thinking into our business and culture,” said Tom Morrissey, Boston O&P President and CEO. “Specifically, using Lean techniques will help us to provide better quality care and devices to our patients.”

“While we have made great strides as a result of our previous Lean Training initiative, there are abundant opportunities to continue improving, including shorter wait times at our clinics, easier scheduling of appointments, simpler billing processes, and higher-quality patient care,” said Morrissey. “Our goal is to make for a better patient experience by improving the care process from start to finish.”

Boston O&P will train 52 workers in its 7 Massachusetts clinics, including the billing, leadership, and production departments.

Employees will be trained in a number of areas, including:

  • Lean daily management systems
  • Waste identification and elimination
  • Improvement kata/coaching kata
  • Poka-yoke (mistake proofing)
  • Kaizen event planning
  • Frontline supervisory skills
  • Management challenges

Boston O&P was one of 84 companies in Massachusetts to receive a grant under the program, which promotes job growth, employee retention, and enhanced productivity for businesses in Massachusetts.

This project is funded by a Workforce Training Fund grant from the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, Executive Office of Labor and Workforce Development. The grant program is administered by Commonwealth Corporation.
